Winter Maple
January 11, 2012
This is a painting I did with a brush and India ink on paper back in 2002. It is just black lines on a white background, but I think it captures what it is to be a tree sleeping in the cold winds of winter. A careful reading of this work will show that it is not a single tree, but a pair. This painting hangs in my library and I often look at it and think it is one of my better pieces despite its simplicity and lack of color. Perhaps I like this painting because it is so peaceful and shows the stark contrast between what is living, yet dormant, and the bleak white skies of a cold, overcast day. Feel free to leave comments (or offer me large sums of money to own this fine work of art.)
